Automobile Injury Appeal Commission

Where a claimant’s injuries prevent them from performing all or most of the essential duties of the employment they held at the time of the accident, they may have applied to Saskatchewan Government Insurance for income replacement benefits.

The benefits are based on the claimant’s employment at the time of his/her accident. With the exception of serious or catastrophic injuries, the benefit is a temporary measure to compensate for lost wages while claimants are recovering from their injuries. Claimants may also qualify for lump sum pension benefits.

Income replacement benefits end when the claimant can return to the work they were doing at the time of his/her accident or when they begin to earn the same level of income they earned at the time of their accident. Circumstances may require the claimant to return to work in a new occupation based on their residual earning capacity, determined by health care professionals and an SGI representative.
